My best friend is looking for a cheap used car in Houston Texas, but her first priority is safety. Can you tell me how does she choose a safe yet cheap used car?

Buying a new car is not as easy as compared to buying clothes or home appliances.It is not all about choosing the best model, but it is more of choosing the right and safest car possible that could be accomodated by your budget. It’s not only that a safe care mean that you are better off if you are engaged in accident, but have a car packed with the latest safety features which can mean bigger discounts on your insurance rate. These 2 major safety feature involves how well the car is designed which means prevention of crash accidents, and how well a car performs on crash tests.
A good source in finding out what the safest cars are is checking with Consumer Reports Magazine. Consumer Reports magazine uses safety test results from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which does full-frontal crashes and side-impact collisions and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which tests vehicles in an offset-frontal crash, a more common type.
According to the recent test sponsored by Consumer Reports Magazine , these cars are categorized as the most safest.
As for Upscale and large sedans; The Lexus ES300, the Audi A4 and the BMW 330i are the charttoppers. The Buick LeSabre Limited and Chrysler 300M came in last out of 14 vehicles tested in this category.
In the Family sedans Category, The Volkswagen Passat GLX (V6) came in at number one, with the Toyota Camry XLE (V6) close behind. The Passat GLS, the Nissan Altima 3.5 SE and the Subaru Legacy also faired enough in this category. And for Small cars category, Volkswagen took top honors in the battle of the bantamweights. The Volkswagen Golf TDI came in at No.1. Not far behind was the Honda Civic EX and the Volkswagen Jetta GLS TDI.
Regardless of the car model or make, especially if you are buying cheap used cars in Houston, you can totally invest on procuring safety gadgets for your car.
There should be other safety features to consider. Like for potentially vulnerable individuals, such as ladies traveling alone, personal security inside and around a stationary vehicle may be of high importance. The first level of safety, for any vehicle, is that your remote control for the security lock, or key, should initially unlock one door only. If it can just unlock all of the doors simultaneously, there is always the danger of having someone with evil intentions entering the vehicle, or reach in and grab something, as you are getting in. It is also important to remember that any vehicle is only as safe as should the person driving it. So you should always be alert and a safe driver.
